NIGHTS ARE THE HARDEST WHEN YOU HAVE TINNITUS

Sharing is caring!

The dark knight of tinnitus

For almost all people who suffer from tinnitus, nights can be very hard.

By day you can manage to keep going as normal. You go places, you do things, you drive, you cook, you talk, you’re on the street, at work, in the supermarket, etc., and there are many other sounds that mask the ringing in your ears.

But the nights… Nights are another matter altogether. At night, in bed, there’s only you and the ringing, the ringing and you. This is the part that most emotionally affects me, trying to keep despair and frustration at bay in order to fall asleep and stay asleep.

Goal: make your nights less hard

So it seems that I will have to focus on making the nights more bearable to be able to cope with my tinnitus until it disappears completely, which according to the doctor, can take months, years or forever. It hopefully won’t take me that long.

This is the 8th night since I began suffering from tinnitus and I really need to get some rest some time soon. I haven’t been able to sleep properly since this happened. I fall asleep exhausted and within two hours the ringing wakes me up.

It’s always the same, the humming calls a temporary truce when you can’t take it anymore, and it lets you sleep a couple of hours, enough to leave you minimum energy, and then… it wakes you up again. Right now I look more like the Walking Dead than a human, to be honest.

It’s affecting my energy, my mood, my drive… So now the problem is you may be developing a dangerous sleep disorder, which you should try to avoid at all costs.

Tonight I will try an app on my tablet that I have been recommended by my ear specialist in London. It is based on white noise to help mask the ringing.

The app is called Oticon Tinnitus Sound app, which you can download on mobile and tablet for free.
