Who doesn’t like to win a prize? There are always people who will tell you they don’t bat an eyelid if they get a nomination for one. We don’t really get that Woody Allen kind of thing, and were as happy as a clam when this year we were shortlisted for Best Blog in Spain 2018.
We received the news that MUNDO TINNITUS had been selected as a finalist in the XII edition of the 20Blogs Awards 2018, which recognises the best blogs all across Spain from a total of 3,300 bloggers.
This award is presented annually by the daily 20minutos newspaper and is designed to give credit to the hard work of thousands of bloggers who, using the Internet, share truthful and relevant content with the rest of the world.
It was quite a surprise for us that a publication about tinnitus caught the attention of the judges at 20minutos and won us a place as a finalist. This certainly gives us encouragement in the fight against a condition that has baffled scientists all over the world.
A night to remember
The awards ceremony was held in Madrid, and took place in the symbolic CaixaForum building on Paseo del Prado.
And who was going to be at my side on the night other than my dazzling Dad, who also writes the articles in the Chemist’s Insight section of MUNDO TINNITUS. It’s a very special moment when you get the opportunity to share your achievements with the people you love the most.
The ceremony was hosted by the popular TV presenter Óscar Martínez and the sports journalist Leire Barriocanal.
The ceremony included a performance from magician Jorge Blass, who left us all open-mouthed at his amazing tricks and illusions which I still haven’t found an explanation for!

More than 300 guests attended the ceremony, with many familiar faces, such as the writer Carmen Posadas; the President of the Congress, Ana Pastor; the Minister of Employment, Fatima Báñez; the Secretary of State for Social Services, Mario Garcés; and many more politicians.
There were even more top-notch guests who showed up to the event, as the executive president of Microsoft Ibérica, the director of Google Spain and Portugal, the president of 20minutos newspaper, and Telefonica’s director of communication, along with other well-known journalists and celebs.

Science is trendy!
And the award for the Best Blog 2018 fell well deservedly into the hands of Yo Soy Tu Profe, a blog that aims to make science easily accessible to young people and their families, in a clear and simple way.
We feel very happy that a science blog gets recognition for all their effort.
Looking forward to next year’s awards nominations!
